The man wakes up the next morning to find that the cabin has been reduced to bits of burnt wood scattered about, with the old lady nowhere in sight. As a hunter walked by, the man called out to him, “Excuse me, sir. Do you know what happened here?”

The hunter replies, “Oh, there was a really intense thunderstorm, and a bolt of lightning struck the cabin and burnt it down.”

“What?!” the man exclaims. “But last night I was given hospitality by an old lady here!”

“That’s impossible,” replies the incredulous hunter. “She died in the fire two years ago.”

“Two years ago?!” the man clutches his stomach, suddenly feeling very sick. “But that means…”

“What? What does it mean?”

“That means my dinner last night was comprised of food that’s been expired for two years!”
